OUD CONSTRUCTION VIDEO

farukturunz - 2-13-2010 at 07:08 AM

I would like to share a video broadcasted by various TV channels so far.

My son Ali added English annotations to it. Just drag the cursor to the bottom of the video to read.

Enjoy

Dear Faruk,

I think this is the best of the several 'Faruk Türünz' tv stories that have been done over the past few years and Ali has done a great job with the sub-titling.

My congratuations and best wishes to you and your family.

Warm regards,

Greg

This is very very interesting Usta Faruk! Thanks for posting this.

Is the computer program your own design? Can you take into account different kinds of wood for the top (i.e. different grain width for instance) ?

Thank you Danielo for your attention. The computer program was written by one of my friends. I always measure the eigenfrequencies of the unbraced soundboard at hand at the central points of the brace locations and put those eigenfrequencies in the data entry window of the program. (This means each time different ones)
The grain structure and the kind of the wood determine the overal stiffness and this is represented by the eigenfrequencies scattered through out the soundboard.

thank you Usta Faruk for your reply... Are you able to reach full 'predictability' for the sound with this tool or is there still room for suprises (good or bad)?

farukturunz - 2-22-2010 at 07:52 AM

If I commit to try a very new combination of brace tunings I do this on an oud which I designate as "experimental" and I accept the risk of any failure beforehand. That is to say that oud will not be sold in case of failure.
Once having succeed with the experiment I name that combination like "arabian sound bracing - june 2009" or "Turkish sound bracing - Jan. 2010" and there is no more any chance to an unpredictable result. Yes, I am " able to reach full 'predictability' for the sound with this tool."

Thank you David for your comment. My part is very little yet. It can be considered as the first steps only:)
