I'm wary of buying an instrument online but I've never even seen one for sale, locally (Portland, OR, USA). Are there any models online that are
decent? teslim - 6-23-2010 at 02:44 PM
I would stay away from those inexpensive online lavtas...i have seen several and they are all very dead and muffled sounding. the lavta should be
very bright and resonant, The best lavtas that I have found are made by Dimitris Rapakousios(dimitrisouds.com).. I have 2 of his and a turkish one by
Turhan Demerilli...dimitris are far superior..for your information there are several neck length sizes. If you email Dimitris he can give you all the
specs...good luckoudistcamp - 6-24-2010 at 07:47 AM
Here is my lavta that Dimitris made for me, with a custom detail on the pickguard which I emailed him.
The lavta sounds ethereal.....

How much did that instrument cost you, if you don't mind me asking. I can't find any reference to prices on Dimitri's site. Marcus - 6-24-2010 at 11:28 PM

As per request, I have attached a youtube video of my teacher, Gary Haggerty, offering a sound sample of the lavta (pictured above) made by
Dimitris.
He doesn't speak English, but if you're interested I'll e-mail him for you. I would guess this could be got for about $1,600 (including heavily padded
soft case and shipping); he usually takes about 40 days to make one. P.S. I'm moving to Portland next week - maybe we can get together and play a bit
(that lâvta will be there soon afterward - it's on a truck just now). Good luck either way! Eric Ederer (ederer@umail.ucsb.edu).luan - 10-5-2012 at 09:22 AM
Sounds great! The longer tension seems to give it a great soundudmaker - 10-5-2012 at 10:22 AM
but if I had more money, I would have one custome made that is identical to the one Ross daly plays, it's a hybrid between the lavta and the laoto and
sounds awesome...Ararat66 - 10-13-2012 at 12:59 PM
Great playing from all - makes me want to get a Lavta I also spotted
this vid which I also really like.
