Congratulations, you have a lovely voice and a great feel for it. Great choice of song. I only have one comment (though your teacher might not agree): playing slightly further away from the bridge might complement your voice even more.

SamirCanada - 9-17-2010 at 03:39 AM

Great job Jenny.
I am blown away by your natural talent.

Like Dave said, you play a bit close to a bridge.

jenni - 9-17-2010 at 04:57 AM

@ Katakofka: It is a Sukar oud, made in Syria. And Nancy Ajram does this song? weird.... but at this point it is still only imitation (of waed bouhassoun)

And Dave and Samir, I will try to play further away - the oud sounds very heavy to me in this video and not very graceful... perhaps this is why? thank you for the comments!!!

Reda Aouad - 9-17-2010 at 09:32 AM

Even with the modest recording quality, you got great talent :applause:

Very well done :)

As for the risha.. and as a complement to my friends' advice about playing further from the bridge.. maybe holding the risha more parallel to the strings would also produce a softer sound..

But again.. Bravo and keep it up! I would love to listen again to such a talented voice :)

FastForward - 9-17-2010 at 11:16 AM

I think you did a very good job. Comparing to the recording you are trying to imitate I would say very well done.

Thank you everyone for the encouragement!
I'm going to put another one up soon with some corrected pronunciation and improved risha technique :)

Luttgutt - 10-21-2010 at 04:07 AM

I believe I have heard this song when I was around 10 years old :-)

And if I am not mistaken, I believe this is by Om Kalthom (probaly from one of her earlier films!? Anyone who knows??)

Yes indeed, wanderfull voice and very well performed.

Thanks a lot for remineding me og this song.

mrkmni - 10-22-2010 at 07:29 PM

Luttgutt:
I dont think this is a song of OK

Jenny:
I am sure you are improving your performance.

jenni - 10-23-2010 at 06:06 AM

yes, i don't think it's oum kalthoum... i recently found some very old versions of it, neither was her. and i'm pretty sure it is syrian.

fhalaw - 10-26-2010 at 12:50 PM

Finally the mistary solved :-)

The singer is Lara Keyrouz, known as Nahawand!

She is from Lebanon (not syria). Was Actually very big in the 1940s and 50s

And This is a very Beautifull song!
