Thunderbolt

What do you think about this technology?

Do you think it will replace FireWire and USB and will improve the possibilities of recording with our notebooks?

hi Dave

I don't think that this port will change the way we are recording now.
(even FireWire and USB are working fine)
but we maybe can connect a raid-system and this will increase the streaming-performance to the harddisk...

Best Regards
Mourad

Thanks Mourad,

I'm a neophyte about recording and I use a MacBook Air 11". I'd like to buy something more powerful and more comfortable for home but I'm hesitating between a MacBook Pro 17" (with the Thunderbolt), a iMac 27" (with "only" USB and FireWire) and a Mac Pro Quad-Core. The Thunderbolt gives a new argument to the MacBook Pro 17", but without new external audio interfaces... As you say USB and FireWire work fine, I should focus on these or think about an internal audio interface on a Mac Pro...

It's my understanding that getting a solid state hard drive will make the most difference in speed, USB 2.0 and Firewire have plenty of speed as long as the processor, RAM, and hard drive can keep up.

Yes Brian, I agree, and I can see how SSD works well with the MacBook Air. SSD is in my specifications even for a 128 Go, enough for the OS.

So, if USB and FireWire work well for you, Thunderbolt could be seen as a plus. The future will tell if this becomes a standard...

In my opinion the paper book would have been a revolution if had been invented after the thunderbolt:
Best resolution, light weight, constant availability without any energy consommation, low cost...:)
