hello all
i am trying to buy an Ali Khalifa oud, does any one have a previous experience with his ouds? thanks in advance

I think there are some fake Ali Khalifa ouds. I saw some on ebay and have read on some forums that it is not the real one. Post pics for it and more experienced members can maybe verify if it is for the famous Ali Khalifa

I am in the same boat as you. I have read good things about Dr Atef Abdel Hameed who can help you get a good quality oud from Egypt. I got in touch with him and I will be taking delivery maybe sometime next week

Khalid Belhaiba (from Morocco)has also been recommended on these forums. I got in touch with him and he seems to have some reasonably priced ouds

Some ouds come available at the main ebay site and regional ones especially france.

Good luck!

I would advice you to try and play them. Ali Khalifah passed away years ago. There are some fake Khalifa's and some genuine ones made by his sons and cousins(Mainly Moaffaq). They are not as good but represent good value for money

They are good ouds, just need a minimum amount of work for it to be more comfortable and playable

i disagree about them being even reasonably good instruments - the neck on mine started to dip almost immediately - the roses were nylon. it was a gift from my wife - i couldn't throw it away - so i took it to local luthier, who transformed it into a reasonable sounding instrument. but with time, angst and money all tolled together, i could have bought a good one without any of the fuss.
