hi all i have sanded the back of a rosewood oud i have because there was a lot of imperfections it looked rely bad but now it looks great as a mat

Hi dkoury. Not many people answered your question yet, probably because this post is in the wrong forum. It should be under "Oud Projects Forum" Maybe
this post can be moved by a moderator in order to receive more attention.
But I'll answer your question.
So I assume there is already some finish on the bowl of your oud? If so, you have to remove that. You can do so with a cabinent scraper, and/or
sandpaper starting at a more coarse grit and work your way to a finer coarse.
Once its smooth, all the previous finish is removed and it looks nice, you want to remove dust from the bowl as much as possible. Tact clothes are
good for this.
Then you have to decide what type of finish you'd like to have. You can use an oil base varnish, a laquer, or french polish.
When you get to this step, let us know, and we will provide more help for you, as there are a lot of small important details you'll need to achieve a

This question has been addressed many times on these forums.
Please do a search for "Varnish bowl", or "finish", or words like that and you will get many suggestions. You will also get many irrelevant answers
and you will have to go through and decide what works for you.
You can also look at Jameel's (website for many tips and step by steps, and also Dr. Oud's excellent book and website.

If you sanded the back, how is the stain still on? Do you mean the finish?

spray the bowl with a turkish made varnish called "delux super extra shinny vernic"

Hi Dany,
Danish Oil should applied in couple of days, using some steel wool between at the last sanding should give the mat finish.
it is the same as for other stringed instruments, like guitar. there are many website where you can find this info if you google on mat finish +
guitar.
I have a pdf file (magazine) about wood finish if you are willing to read this week . I will search it and post it here.

a bit glossy. Just a quick question for you all I am not sure if once the danish oil dry's if I should give it a light sand before the next coat? and

The result is very nice. And very close to the natural aspect of the wood.

Dkhoury, all you really need to do is very gently use a very fine steel wool or a plastic "steel wool". The gauge of the steel wool will determine how
matte it is. If you mess up, just apply another coat of varnish and start over.
Microber, that's much more beautiful than I would have expected. Gorgeous!
