New Maurice shehata oud :)

SamirCanada - 9-21-2011 at 03:40 AM

Just wanted to share my new oud from Al-Aseel workshop in Egypt.

I went there during my stay in egypt and I have some pictures to share.

I would like some help to figure out what wood the back is made of. Hani who works at maurice's shop told me it was amazone ebony but I dont think thats the scientific name.

Mike if you are reading this, they all say hi :)

I saw such wood on an acoustic bass guitar and if I remember it correctly, it was called tiger stripe ebony.

I guess it's macassar ebony.

yah I was thinking that to... but i feel like the white parts of the wood here are rather light compared to the more orange type I see online.

anyways :)

it looks and sounds like a beauty. I am really happy with it.

Mabrouk Samir! It's good to see the picture of Hany. Miss those guys. Isn't it fun hanging out with those dudes?

Ezzayak ya Meeka! your right they are super nice guys. Unfortunately Mo wasnt there when I went.
Bro, they had an old oud they were fixing almost identical to your Qasabji oud... a beauty.

Unfortunately we were on our way to Ein el Sokhna (stella) that evening and I couldnt spend much time with them. Also, its was really cool to see how they work together. The older man who does the inlay work is something else to watch work.

Honey colored french polish versus colorless french polish?

The later is hard to get ... I needed to travel to Arnhem to get it ... not available in Germany.

Maybe yes,

This oud though is finished with lacquer which is clear and non colored.

Btw, this is where I get my schellac. They have everything from dark orange to super blonde. Great company to deal with to. http://www.woodessence.com
