Hey Mike, I have some old old Farid tapes that i just made into MP3's. These songs are not on your site and I was wondering if you want me to post them or e-mail them to you so you can put them on your site?

Hey Merc,

I have just about all of Farido's CD's and numerous tapes. What are the song titles that you encoded? I'd love to get a hold of any that I don't have. So, yeah, go ahead and email me a list and I'll let you know what I'm missing.

ok, no problem, I don't know the song titles, sorry about that. I will hopefully upload them today, can someone let me know how to upload more than one file at a time, that would be appreciated :cool:

I know the tape has a couple awel hamsa songs but they are higher pitch than the ones you have on your site (maybe different oud or tuning) and a slightly different Nagham fi Hayati Taqsim and some Adi Rabiih, just to list a few, but there are others I don't know the name of. There are a couple of songs (with drum beats) and some that aren't. I havent converted everything to computer yet but I will provide what I have done so far.

Wow! this is really cool. Is there anywhere I can find farid's less prominent taqassim? The only ones I have are the one mike posted on the farid link.

i called it farid slow because it is one of his slower songs and i didnt know what to call it so i named it farid slow.

Thanks for this! Man, this brings back memories of the Farido site. I am looking forward to when Wassimo has it online again. I think this might have been a recording from an interview or radio program. I don't think this is on any of his CDs or tapes. Did you get this from a family member? Either way, thanks for sharing it with us man. Check out the MP3 page to hear a recording for Sunbati that I just uploaded. It was sent to me by a visitor of the website. Many thanks to Hussain for that one too.

Brilliant!!! I've never heard Farid play againsts percussionist. Are you sure this is Farid?? I thought I had it all, but then again I find something new . . .

sorry about the numerous posts, here is the cover of the tape that its from. By the way has anyone seen that mp3 cd on ebay, 9 cds in 1, 52 songs. There's also a 50min VCD (Video CD) on ebay too, el rabi3. What do you guys think?

I have a taqasim tape for Farid, but definitely not the same one you have. Amazing! These are just "bootlegs" that people compile and release. Imagine what else is out there!

i know the tape i have is original though. My dad has had it for a very long time and one day I started listening to it (a long time ago).

sorry man, I didn't mean bootleg in a bad way. I meant someone recorded these from a concert, complied them, and released them

Amazingly, I also have a copy of this same Farid tape. Several years ago I copied it from a commercial audio cassette belonging to my Lebanese father-in-law. It has the same tape print-through on the first track that can be heard on mercm525i's tape. There is also the distinctive sound of disk surface noise (same as on mercm525i's tape).
So it seems the tapes had their origins in a badly recorded dub from disk. My copy is only a cassette-to-cassete dub, but I will take a digital copy off the original cassette during the holidays (on the off chance that it is a better copy than mercm525i's).

I have never heard that second one either. I too thought I had most of Farido's stuff. Although this doesn't sound like his kinda style, keep them coming my man. :applause:

There is a greek song (greek lyrics but i think the melodie has arabic-anatolian influences) from 1958 called ZINGUALA (

) which uses the first part of this "Farid second song" ..hmm music travels right?

The second part is a turkish classic song called "Muhabet Bagina Girdim bu gece" (well known as "Ararim" ) composed from Saddetin Kaynak.

I find this recording isnt a typical Farid-Style playing..

what do you think?

Hey guys,

I have to agree with Nikos on this one. The only one that sounds like Farido is the first recording Merc posted. This might be some sort of compilation tape with various musicians recording taqsims on it and Farid just on the cover of the tape. Either way, all the files are very very nice. Thanks for sharing them with us.

You guys are very welcome. I am sure its all farid on the tape, im definite. On one side is awel hamsa and adil rabi3, and the other has the percussion songs on there. I'm sure thats its all farid, even though not all is his style.

Here is the picture of the tape. These songs might have a style one does not associate with Farid since not many have heard it, which may be the reason that would lead one to think that it's not him. Can't you guys tell from the sound of his oud? :bounce:

Also, the picture of the cover I posted on the first page (which one can not see in blue) says LIVE RECORDING
