Hi guys,

If you will be in New York City this Saturday night, please come and join us at Alwan for a very cool concert:

The Tawadros brothers were nice enough to invite me to join them for a performance at Alwan for the Arts in Lower Manhattan. We will be showcasing our original compositions, and playing as a trio for a bit at the end.

Thanks, I hope you can join us!

It is heart breaking to miss this fine group again!!!!!!

What a great show this was. JT is a remarkable player, and if the oud thing doesn't work out he might have a second career as a comedian ;)

Mav sounded terrific, as usual. It was nice to hear your originals, Mav--I've usually only heard you play repertoire. Was the Nikriz longa yours as well? I really liked it and want a copy!

Nice to see all the NY/NJ oudis hanging out!

It was an amazing show. Mav, my fiance is in love with your composition Camille. I want to buy her an mp3 of it. Now she is begging me to write a romantic composition on oud for her. Do you see what you've started? LOL.

It was my first live oud performance since I started playing and it's going to be hard to find something else on par with that level of musicianship and soul. Thank you for a great evening.

Wow,

Thanks for your compliments and especially to everyone who made it out in the cold. I feel really lucky just to have been there to listen to Joe and James, let alone perform with them. These guys are the real deal (and hilarious).

I highly, highly recommend their latest release, "Concerto of the Greater Sea" and really look forward to their upcoming album, which they are recording in the studio right now with some legendary musicians.

Anthony, Camille is one of my favorites too. It's funny that the simplest/easiest piece can be the one that stays with you (I wrote that about 14 years ago, and almost didn't include it last night b/c it is so simple).

Brian, the fact that you liked any of my pieces means a lot to me - I really respect your writing and your taste, so thanks a lot! I have an old version of the Nikriz Longa written out in Ottoman notation attached here (Lilypond). I'll try and bang it out using concert pitch in Finale though. Real glad you liked it.

There may be some videos and photos from the show available at some point, and I'm sure some will be posted if they turn out okay. Our good friend Lee Varis was on hand with his camera so we'll see.

Thanks again! Especially to Joe, James and everyone at Alwan for the Arts.

:)

Hi guys,

Just wanted to let you know, thanks to Lee Varis and his trusty camera, we have some footage from the concert at Alwan back in February.

Unfortunately the entire song wasn't captured, but here is a clip of the introductory taksims/solos each of us played for the show's finale, Joe's "Forbidden Fruit."

Forbidden Fruit Taksims - Alwan for the Arts

I'm posting more clips that Lee shared with me, which are mostly from the beginning of the show where it was just James and me playing some of my compositions. Hopefully you'll enjoy those too. :)

Thanks again guys,

Mavrothi
