A friend of mine is looking at purchasing a used qanun made by Ibrahim Sukar. I have one of his ouds and I love it, does anyone know anything about
his qanuns? Are they as solid as his ouds? Any feedback is appreciated, thank you!

Hi Amos,
The main kanun/qanoun player I work with says:
"I have a Sukar.
It is solid, well-constructed of excellent materials, and stays tuned with little effort.
The sound is clean with no buzzes, and is consistent with the "Arabic" tonal quality.
Downside: Mandals could be better finished.
Personally, I found the Farabi qanouns (from Aleppo) much sweeter sounding. [X]
bought one from me and changed all the mandals to Turkish."
Hope that helps!
Best,
"Udi" John

Thanks Udi John, that does help...I know you've been on the scene a long time and know your stuff so your input is much appreciated. Thanks for your
time!

No problem, Amos! "My" kanun player has been on the scene since I was a toddler!
Good luck,
John

Do you mind if I ask who he is? And where are located currently, John? Thanks again!

Hi Amos,
The kanun player I work with (and I) are in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I will ask him at rehearsal tonight about an exchange of info with you.
All the best,
John
