It is a joy to play and has a strong distinctive and beautiful sound. I love it.
Thank you Michael.

My stringing= Pyramid Orange label F,A,d
Pyramid lute nylon .825 for g
Pyramid lute nylon .650 for c

hello chares
After chanting congrats and the usual staff-now then I would like an answer to a disturbing question: how much are replicas of the same style similar i. e. if some liked yours and would like to order one -would it be the same?
taking a real life example: how do you compare yours to ameer's or to Ramy Heshmat's on utube- Secondly would the tuning affect the taste of the instrument- I know that Ameer's is tuned CFDGC and yours FACGC with a possibility of high F.
Michael is adamant that it is crucial the same as left handed ouds- it is not as simple as inverting the strings
WHAT ARE THE VIEWS OF EVERYBODY, PLEASE?

Giorgioud - 7-17-2012 at 06:29 AM

Beautiful oud Charles, really gorgeous. Love it. Michael Moussa is a genius. May the oud accompany you for a long and fruitful musical journey.

Markus, the CFDGC is sure a strange tuning. It's the first time I encounter it. Do you mean CFADGC? Because, you know, if there's a tuning like that you have described, and someone is using it, I'd like to know about it and check how it sounds like!

sorry giorgioud( i do not know your first name)
i missed the A- i meant CFADGC tuning, now then, Iam readdressing my query to Charles, Ameer, kelly .. and whover has dealt with moussa's ouds -would the tuning affect the oud performance- or take it the otherway round
should the oud be made differently to suit a special tunning. I am specifying michael as his ouds sound completely different depending on the style but how do the same style ouds correlate?

Thanks Giorgioud, yes Michael is a fine maker and a fine man indeed.
Marcus, I appreciate your question. firstly I think it is one for the maker rather than the player. I really dont know if ouds are or should be made differently for different tunings. Personally I dont think so, I have never heard of a high f oud as a seperately constructed instrument. I have played a number of Michael's ouds and he makes different types and styles, his replica series which are now growing in numbers takes models from famous makers of the past and reproduces that look quite faithfully, but it is still Michael's sound. I think a left handed model would require construction to be switched around when it comes to making the soundboard. I may be wrong but I believe the two halves of the soundboard are slightly different thickness to accommodate bass and treble sounds?. With tuning, many say their oud prefers this or that kind of tuning but again I am not aware of makers selecting a particular construction regarding tuning except perhaps Turkish 'or' Arabic pitch. My guess is that my oud would sound and feel very similar to Ameer's if they were both fitted with the same strings played by the same player with the same risha. I cannot confirm this as Ameer is in USA and I'm in UK. My Pyramid stringing choice (Orange label & lute trebles) is exactly the same as used by one of my favourite players, Roman Bunka. This suits my new oud very well, I have not tried 6 courses or high f yet, maybe I will some time but I like the 5 course way. Hope this all helps Marcus, sorry I cant be more exact with my answers.

thanks charles for your prompt and adequate answer. definitely it is not by chance that such a magnificent oud has landed into the bosom of a wise oudi
can't wait to hear some tricky taqssim on the new comer
