That's not just an oud, it's a piece of art.

Best wishes for Syria and it's people. May the war end as soon as possible!

Sam - 8-26-2012 at 04:15 AM

Indeed, the work made by Zaher Khalifeh is truely amazing. Looking forward to listen this piece of art.

Brian Prunka - 8-27-2012 at 12:29 PM

That looks amazing. If it sounds even half as great as it looks, it will be a great oud. I second the best wishes for Syria and an end to the fighting.

Faladel - 9-2-2012 at 08:09 AM

Please ¿can you post the sound???
Thanks

ALAMI - 9-2-2012 at 01:27 PM

In the middle of all what is happening in Syria, this guy found the serenity to make a oud with such a tremendous amount of fine work.
This is admirable.
He chosed to reproduce one of the greatest ouds of Abdo of Damascus.
This tells me that Syria will prevail over death.

No words can describe the level of craftsmanship. Bravo to the brilliant maker.

Faladel - 9-3-2012 at 10:40 AM

Can you post Zaher adress in egypt ???
Thanks

dkhoury35 - 9-4-2012 at 06:16 AM

i hope that it is the recording of the video thats making the buzzing

bulerias1981 - 9-4-2012 at 11:30 AM

Its a brand new oud. The action was likely set slightly low so that with time it will come higher where it will settle for a while. I dont hear a problem with buzzing anyway. I believe its just the recording. This oud player is good.. but I wish to hear a simpler/slower taqsim to really hear the quality a bit better.

Brian Prunka - 9-4-2012 at 12:19 PM

Yes, that's the recording distorting. I agree with John, some simpler playing would let us hear the sound better. From what I can tell it sounds good.

dkhoury35 - 9-4-2012 at 02:58 PM

no doubt it is a wonderful oud and would love to have one!!!!!!!!

Sam - 9-6-2012 at 02:23 PM

New video of the Oud but this time with low tension and Arabic tunning!

I've always said that its hard to get a full idea of the true sound of an instrument without hearing in person, under you own ear. Having said that.. I believe this oud has a great sound based on the video's recordings. Its also early to tell.. but the tone will likely get better with time of course. I do not hear any buzzing either.

In my opinion... its one of the best ouds on this forum, for obvious reasons. Maybe even the best.

Lucky is the person that gets to own this beauty.

Mehran - 9-7-2012 at 12:31 AM

This guy gets better with every oud he makes. This one wins the biscuit though.

I wonder if those rosettes are cut by hand or laser cut?

Brian Prunka - 9-7-2012 at 06:21 AM

I agree with the oud crackhead; it is impossible to tell from a video, but based on these recordings, this oud seems to have a great sound. There is a fullness and penetrating quality of tone that I don't think can be artificially introduced, even though the sound quality of the video is not very good.

Very impressive, I look forward to hearing and seeing more from this maker.

bulerias1981 - 9-7-2012 at 07:29 AM

Here is some of his other work.. does he have a website?

The most interesting thing about Zaher is that he's only 27 years old !
Who said future luthiery is in real jeopardy of extinction ?

I've been asked to price this oud, but I said: this masterpiece is priceless & I meant it !

Yours indeed

excentrik - 9-13-2012 at 12:39 PM

Is he a relative of the Ali Khalifeh clan? His style is impeccable! Very ornate, but somehow he avoids any gaudiness at all... Truly talented young cat.

Yes Tarik dear, of course. He's a descendant of the same family. I think that the late Ali Khalifa is his father's uncle or so. He was born in Damascus and raised "in" the family's workshop. Good, isn't he ?

Complete Hand-make rosettes

hi dear, the decoration are cut by hand of course... they are wooden made as no camel bone were available at the time of making.. as I know, Zaher has spent some months cutting and preparing the decoration completely by hand. The only industrial parts of the oud is the plastic circle in the middle of the face; it's cut by laser.

hope you I answered your questions..

Amazing replica of a Nahat oud. The best I have seen yet.

At $2000 someone call the cops... it is a steal.

dkhoury35 - 11-8-2012 at 09:29 PM

im a bit disapointed because i contacted zaher and asked him about this oud and how much he told me 5000-6000 dollars and now i see it is here for $2000 I know it is a beautiful oud and there is a lot of work involved but explain the 3000-4000 dollar price difference

And by the way im not having a go at anyone or putting them down but i feel someone was trying to pull one over me

Sam - 11-9-2012 at 01:33 PM
