HELP! Finding single strings in Istanbul....

Edward Powell - 9-8-2012 at 03:17 PM

Hi Everyone...
...I have a sort of urgent request for information.
I have run out of DUGAH (ee strings in Turkish tuning, the thinnest wound string) strings and desperately need a new supply - and I don't want to pay the $5 each that Pyramid is asking on-line.

Last time I was in Istanbul - in Tunel, I found a music shop which sold locally made generic (no name brand) wound strings for Turkish oud. The thinnest ones (dugah strings) were only 1 YTL (lira) each.

Now, I have a good friend from Vancouver going to Istanbul next week and he has agreed to try to find these strings there and send them to me by post.

My question is this.... does anyone here know exactly which shop is selling these INDIVIDUAL oud strings in large quantities??? Like 50 or 100 pieces??

Thanks so much ! I need this info soon.
Of course my friend can just go to Tunel and ask...... but much better to know the right shop.

THANKS!

I don't know much about generic strings, but an alternative would be to email Ishik Ozten (Kenan's son) ahead of time (a few days to a week) to place your order of single strings. He makes them himself. His price is very reasonable, and he does respond in English. He is in Unkapani, in the music mall. Good luck!
