Ahlan everyone,
I have been working pretty hard on learning Arabic recently. Since I spent this summer at Middlebury Arabic Language School and last summer studying in Morocco. I am doing pretty well with speaking and grammar but as we all know the lyrics found in older Arabic music and in poetry is often quite different that spoken Arabic. I am attaching a quick recording I just made of me reading one of my favorite Mahmoud Darwish poems "Ala Hadhihi al Ardh" (On This Land) to ask for any feedback from Arabic speakers on this forum. Thank you for any help!

Very nice pronunciation, the heavy sads, dads, ta's ha's and so on are very good already and will get better with practise (in sha Allah!). Just remember to connect the hamzat al-wasl properly, so it's:

'ala hadhihil-ard,

not

'ala hadhihi-al-ard

(cut out the 'a' of the 'al-'.) This is the rule for both Classical and Colloquial. Well done and حظ سعيد!

Amos I am really impressed. :applause: your pronunciation is very good. Keep it going. I wish my son- who is arabic- has similar interest.

Shukran rex2009!
أظن أن اللغة العربية أحسن لأستخدم في الأغنيات و قصائد و عندما أترجم كلمات من اللغة العربية إلى لغات أخر أنا لا أشعر نفس المعنى. إن شاء الله في مستقبل أنا ستعلم أكثر من هذه لغة الجميلة.
