need a oud book for basics and some nice maqams

Maasfoor - 10-24-2012 at 11:11 AM

Whats up guys,
I got my first oud about a week ago but I still need to learn a lot (including string basics) and I need advice of some text books that are good. My oud is a sukar model and I like a book that goes more toward arabic maqams.

Hi Maasfoor,

Welcome to the discipline, and the forum!

Mr. Parfitt ought to keep you busy for awhile. There is much info here for both maqam and technique.

If you happen to read Arabic, pls. contact me via e-mail & I may be of some help.

Good luck in your very long journey. Remember what Mao once said: even a thousand miles journey starts with one step !

Hi,

I've got interested in ouds via a lute/classical guitar training (as have a couple of other people her too I imagine !)

Some of the best method books for classical guitar are centuries old, e.g. Carulli and Sor. So I wonder are there similar points of reference for the oud in Arabic ? Would be great if anyone has any pointers on this!

I thought it was Lao-Tseu...

Anyway, it's true, you've got to start somewhere, and what about the CD and Book rewiews ?

If I were you I would use my ears as well as my eyes, good luck :airguitar:
