Bashraf Saba (Qadim)

Here is an old Persian Bashraf in Saba.
At this time the flattened fourth was only used sparingly.
(From the Cantemir book).

Nice !
thanks for sharing.

In Byzantine music also Saba (called "Naos" in Byzantine) was not a unique maqam but a kind of usual modulation from Ussak .

But it was so popular that the practice its self made it exist like a unique maqam during the years.

True:).

Very interesting.
I would like to hear more Byzantine chant.

The sayr of Saba (Qadim) is quite different than the modern one, much more focus on the low notes.
This other one uses more of the saba note and may be a little more modern as the maqam evolved, as you said.

Tried to play the 88/8 piece with my riqq player friend, cool piece, a bit challenging.
We will keep working on it.
These old pieces have quite a unique character.
