Nikos Saragoudas - Η Αυγή: Μακάμ &

David Parfitt - 1-14-2013 at 11:28 AM

I spotted this Nikos Saragoudas LP mentioned online and noticed the word "makam" in the title, so thought perhaps it contained some solo taksims? Pretty much all the Saragoudas stuff I've encountered before has been accompanied by vocals and/or other instruments, so this would be a nice find. Can someone tell me more about this recording and what kind of stuff is on there?

I notice it's also been reissued on CD as part of a 2CD set in 2002, but I can't find any sound samples online to listen to. :(

Many thanks

David

It has one Oushak taximi. It's mostly dance music: tsiftitelli, syrto, etc with vocals and percussion. Oushak prevails, with some Hijaz, Houzam, Rast. The back cover, which includes the titles (in Greek) can viewed here:

I'd love to get hold of some of his stuff - tried once from studio 54 but it was out of stock. BTW David, I haven't been in touch with Tolga Bektas yet - just had a mad year of work.

Cheers

Leon

Jody - thanks, I'll probably give this one a miss then.

Leon - look forward to hearing how you get on, if you do manage to make contact. I keep checking to see if he has any more videos on Youtube, but nothing yet.
