From a nightmare...I guess

Saudi Arabia?

The artist seems to be called Abu Afishah, but hopefully someone with a better knowledge of Arabic can fill in some more details.

All the best

David

what does it say on his oud?

Khalid_Salé - 2-12-2013 at 06:36 AM

It says "The Artist Abu Afisha." The caption says "Fawaz Afisha challenges anyone to play like him." I believe he is Yemeni?

Looks like Abu Afisha is going to be a recurrent nightmare :))
A schism in the forum between Afishists and anti-Afishists.

:) well I actually quite like it, but notice how the oud playing begins to make more 'sense' when the guy begins to sing and the two elements interact.

Even you Brutus Araratus !

When the two elements interact it is like Nitro meets Glycerine.
We, antiafishists, may be a minority but we will resist till the last peg playing Saba

Hail Alami :xtreme: ;)

I'm a big fan of Yemeni (oud) music. I think it's a very unique and special style of playing.

A while ago I did a show on Yemeni oud music for Radio Bradford. A couple of the clips posted by Bodhi (djamilla Saad) featured as well.

If anybody is interested:

This is a good yemeni player. one of my favorite oud players. Just because you play the gulf style music that your technique cant be refined.
