1998 Faik M. Fadel 7-course Bashir style rosewood Iraqi oud -- price drop

norumba - 2-16-2013 at 12:45 AM

I bought this from OudProff in August of 2009. It is a lovely piece and has served me well, but circumstances require me to move it.

Rosewood bowl with inlay, fiberglass fingerboard. K&K K and K Western Mini four-transducer system professionally installed.

Im including my best oud case with it as well. It has travelled all over the world and i will miss its design and construction!

There were some small cracks , already repaired, on the oud top before i purchased it. Other ones have developed over time but they are all stable with no signs of expansion or give or flex.

Detailed pictures are at this link.

This is a great Iraqi oud by one of the key luthier families. I owned a Yaroub Fadel at one time and much prefer this one by his brother. It has a warmth and richness that the Yaroub didnt quite have. Some Iraqi ouds have a brittle,banjo-like quality to them, but this one transcends that -- its a special piece, indeed.

Price reduced to $1600 USD, paypal, shipped to Con US. with the increasing cost and scarcity for rosewood, plus the case and K&K transducer system, that is a very good deal! :)

Was I nearbye, I would have dropped in to try and hear.
It seems like a pretty heavy tool. BTW, did you weigh it ?
Still, to be honest I have to point out that a couple of years ago, I was offered quite the same oud dated in 1998, all rosewood masterpiece of Faik's, fixed bridge .. for less than half this much, so maybe the price is what prevents people from grabbing this beauty. Maybe !

Good luck

i paid a little over 2K for it from OudProff, and while i dont think these would devalue, i Dropped the price to account for the top.

for this forum only, I'll give 24 hours for the best offer i receive over 1200.

No offence friend ! I just stated a fact. It's also well known that ouds in the Middle East are cheaper than elsewhere, because of supply and demand formula. Sukkar's basic ouds used to leave the factory in Aleppo for less than 100 $. One of my friends who has a relative in Aleppo asked him to stop by Sukkar's place and pick an oud for him. The cousin did and paid only 90 $ . On the other hand, Sukkar's ouds in Europe may easily raise to 400-500 $ to cover hands turnover, shipping costs, insurance, retail profit .. etc. If it makes a transatlantic move, it might exceed 600-700 $, depending on its sound and overall maintenance and condition.
Therefore I understand your distress and unease !
Stay calm and remember that victory is only an hour patience :)

Yours indeed
