ALI UFKI FULL BOOK

Jono Oud N.Z - 3-18-2013 at 06:58 PM

I recently got an old copy of the Ali Ufki book second hand from Turkey.
It was in very bad condition and falling apart.

I got it printed and spiral bound and scanned,
The book has no copyright and is out of print and hard to find.

Here is the whole book:

The notation is in the bass clef and written from to right to left.

I was wondering if some interested people could help me translate some of the titles, composers and rhythms.

The pieces are grouped by maqam; Huseyni Fasil, Segah Fasil etc.

Here is the first piece in modern notation.

This amazing old repertoire deserves to be more well known

thats some great work you've recovered. Have you made any headway with translating any portion of it?

How did you figure it was base clef by the way?

I have purposely not written in Ali Ufki's embellishments on most of the pieces.

Good question, I figured it out from a Bezmara recording of the first piece in Huseyni. Also many pieces are in the Cantemir book, this was helpful along with Bezmara, Al Kindi (YouTube Ottoman Concerts), and Arash Mohafez's 'Ajamlar' recordings .
