Sukar killed?

fernandraynaud - 5-11-2013 at 11:36 AM

I don't know if anyone mentioned anything about Sukar here on the forum, I haven't been logging on as regularly.

I dropped in at Cham Music near Pigalle in Paris today. It's a tiny shop. They only had one oud! I recognized a Sukar 1 or 6. When I asked, the owner said that it was on consignment, and "there are no more Sukars". His own (Cham) ouds "finished" too.

He told me he had a workshop in Aleppo near Sukar's, and that everything in the neighborhood was bombed out about 10 months ago. Sukar's workshop was demolished, the workers killed. He said he had seen photos of the ruins and the dead.

As to Ibrahim Sukar, nobody he knows has heard from him in almost a year. There are rumors about him having been executed, but nobody is sure. He could be buried in the ruins, or taken. If he had gotten out alive, it's likely SOMEBODY would have heard, and nobody he knows has. I don't know if this is the same Ibrahim Sukar being mourned here.

So there. Very bad news. Moreover, Sukar was making the best moderately priced ouds on the planet. Coddle your Sukar ouds, there won't be any more.

None the less hope he is fine along with the rest of the inocent Syrians caught between the 2 filthy sides involved in this tragedy.

hello,

a friend of mine had a phone with him at the end of october 2012. He said his workshop was bombed and the whole family is sitting in the basement, but they where well at this time.
His last personal entry in FB was at the 15th of November.
But as I am often in contact with a friend in Aleppo, I would have heard if he and his family was heart or killed. So I assume they are o.k., but I will ask my friends and let you know the result.

So lets hope the best for him and his whole family.

Regards

Matthias

Is there any reason why not to believe what I've posted in that other thread ? I wonder

The good news in this whole thing is that Eng. Ibrahim Alsukkar & family are safe and sound.
The hell with the bombed factory. Men can make many factories while factories don't make men !

Yours indeed
Alfaraby

Alfaraby, no reason to get offended. I reported what someone told me who had a workshop near Sukar's, namely that people there only knew that the factory was destroyed, and that they had no news of Sukar himself, so they assumed the worst.

I don't understand why you get offended, Alfaraby?

Well yes there is a reason not to believe what you said:
a youtube video showing the funaral of a Ibrahim Sukar!

I find it strange that you would expect us to disrigard the fact that there is a funaral of Ibrahim sukar on youtube and the fact that he has not been answering phone calls for a long time now, just because you say had phone contact with someone!

I really hope and pray that you are right and that Ibrahim is doing well.
But I just think it is strange that you almost "demand" that we believe you no matter what.

Respectfully yours

Alfaraby - 5-14-2013 at 12:26 PM

None taken dear friends.
I did not "demand" to believe me. I was sure enough because a friend talked to Sukkar personally by phone, this's not a hearsay !

I'm aware of the other late Ibrahim Juma'a Ghano Al Sukkar (RIP), killed in Aleppo more than a year ago on 4.3.2012. He was a youngster who was killed by the army. His funeral was reported by the media, then put on youtube. But this was 14 months ago, while my friend talked to Sukkar last month as I've written answering fernand's other question.

So don't mix between the two Ibrahim Sukkars !

I'll forgive any unnecessary comments, since you were not sure enough the man is well !

Yours indeed
Alfaraby
