African Walnut bowl

Has anyone ever built oud bowl made of african Walnut?

Yes dear !
Master Kamil Mowais of Nazareth has built tens of African walnut ouds . Some were even posted or reported here.
I tried my best to track the photos in my over-stuffed hard disc, but found only these with a sound sample.
Such an oud is extremely beautiful, warm, loud and "convincing" .

The wood you posted a picture of looks like Black Limba aka Korina, not african walnut. That said, black limba is often used in guitar building, both electrics and acoustics. Gibson made it (white limba though... same tree just farther out in the wood from the center) famous in the 70s with the korina Flying Vs and Explorers.
I've built both electric and acoustics with it and it's great. You can essentially consider it mahogany in terms of tone and workability.
