Strings for a child's oud?

freya - 6-9-2013 at 01:26 PM

I have a fairly nice Turkish child's oud (I'm assuming that's its intended purpose). The scale length is 480.9 mm. It has five string pairs. I'd prefer the upper four courses to be Adgc. Can anyone suggest a string set that would work for this - preferably a standard set that is perhaps shifted up one course. Also what would be best for the lowest course - single F or G or would a C be better. Anyone familiar with how children's ouds are tuned?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Harry,

I did this before for someone, we got some good results with a little trial and error. Let me go through my records and see if I can figure out what we came up with. Feel free to send me an email.

Hello,

I have already composed some string sets for different scales. For yours I would propose:

note String Newton

c''c'' PYNR 0425 35
g'g' PYNR 0550 35
dd' PYNR 0725 35
aa PY 1007 36
gg PY 1009 35
or ff PY 1011 36

You find theese strings in my shop at http://www.music-strings.de

Best regards

Matthas
