Iraqi tuning

revaldo29 - 12-8-2004 at 09:55 AM

Hey all,

This is a question to all of the experts on iraqi school. I want to experiment with Iraqi tuning for a while but I don't have a Iraqi oud :(. I have a turkish and a cheap syrian oud. It's probably not a good idea to increase the tension on my syrain oud because it's really crapy work and the peg box is already loose. Is it possible to increase the tension on the Turkish oud for a while so that I can play around with this type of tuning? The turkish oud is tuned down to Arabic C-G-A-D-G-C

If you are aiming for higher pitch by increasing the tension, you could obtain same higher pitches by using a smaller gauge string instead.

Elie

Sure it's not a problem to use the Iraqi tuning on a Turkish oud with a string lenght of 58-59cm.

The tuning goes F C D G C F . Or with the bas/pedal F in 1st position.

1st course. Instead of having the top f as 1st, one use the F bas string as 1st string.

>plus where is the A?

There's no A string.

Off course it does: I'm an expert..;)

A traditional tuning used in several Middle eastern countries.
