FOR SALE: Shehata Oud

epokhe - 11-22-2013 at 04:00 AM

Hi everyone,

I'm selling my Egyptian oud. It comes from the workshop of Maurice Shehata in Cairo. They call this model ward, which I believe means "rose" or "rose-colored" in Arabic, because it features a deep red varnish on the bowl and neck. It also has an extended fingerboard with some lovely figuring in the wood. I would call this a mid-range instrument, nice traditional Egyptian sound and great playability, with the label from Shehata's workshop visible inside the bowl. I'm asking for $500 plus shipping from Spain.

Materials
Table: pine (Swedish)
Bowl: walnut
Fingerboard: walnut
Pegs: ebony

Dimensions
Scale length: 61 cm
Table length: 51 cm
Bowl width: 37 cm
Bowl depth: 17,5 cm

¡Buenas! Estoy en Granada. Si no vives lejos, el laúd se puede probar (o recoger) en persona cuando quieras.

very nice lookin oud . any sound files??? the soundboard is pine wood (Swedish wood) as they call it in the arab countries . wood doesn't really matter as long as the oud sounds good.

Hi Sam. Wow, that's interesting! Do you really think it's pine? How do you distinguish it from spruce or cedar?

P.S. I would love to post a clip, but whenever I upload videos to my computer, the audio gets eliminated in the process. :(

Hi everyone,

This oud is still for sale. The description of the woods has been updated (thanks to Sam's expertise), and I've lowered the price to $500 for good measure.
