My latest oud, Khaya

SamirCanada - 12-31-2013 at 08:59 AM

Hi esteemed members,
here is my latest oud for sale. It was made using mostly using Khaya wood and white walnut wood spacers the last 2 ribs are wenge. The whole oud was made using only very strong hide glue. It is finished with tru-oil gun stock
The top is engleman spruce
fingerboard, bridge and face oval inlays are indian rosewood.
ebony pegs.

It's a classic style oud with a fixed bridge and the arabic scale length of 61.5 cm. It is the perfect oud for someone who has a heavy risha and tends to hit the face a lot. I have made the oud with a deep curve to give extra clearance. the action is very low, 2.4 mm at the neck.

Here is a short sound sample, forgive my playing I have spent more time in the shop than practicing. It sounds very powerful already but it needs time to mature.

Oh yes, that the reason why I'll never build an oud until I'm retired even if I'm interested in oud building.
But Samir your playing is still very nice.
And your oud also sounds beautifully. :applause:

Sweet Oud Samiro! Way to go buddy.

SamirCanada - 1-10-2014 at 10:28 AM

Thanks very much everyone.

I am enjoying playing this beauty so much I am going to regret selling it. Its really super easy to play and has a great sound. By far my best sounding instrument I think. It is still looking for a good home to go to though.

Let me know if you are interested or you are interested. I also believe its great value for the instrument it is. As I to keep making ouds and as I get better I anticipate I will have to raise my prices in consideration. Not that I am making any money with this as it is really but I am happy to be making the most beautifull instrument in the world.

God bless, happy new year everyone

This is a very elegant looking and good sounding oud. As you said, it has a strong sound. I would have snatched it from you had I not just purchased a Oud from Turkey. But I am going to Keep an eye on it and Inshallah I will buy it.

From your Video I can tell you are young, and I bet in 20 years people would be looking for your ouds all over the world. So keep it up. Your playing is still good so don't think you are sacrificing it, but you are holding back. Rakhkhi!

Good Luck and I am pleased to have met you (I am new at this wonderful forum)

SamirCanada - 1-13-2014 at 06:41 AM

Ha! Good guess though ya'ibn el halal I am in my last year as a 20 something. Turning 30 soon.

Now that I listened to it a few times. I will post a better sound clip. I have been practicing more these last few days.

Hi Everyone as a reminder the oud is still available I am sharing a new sound sample for you all.

I just signed up to soundcloud so I will be posting more stuff on there. There is no effects or anything on it, recorded with Iphone so the sound is pretty dry.
