Hello HAK and Mrcook - I can highly highly recommend oud lessons with Ahmed Mukhtar and his team of teachers at Taqasim music school. They've got an open day on 7th May, and a oud club on 25th April where students practice performing in front of an audience (I'll be playing something if you want to say hello!)

I've been learning with ustaz Ahmed for 2 years and can safely say the beginners course is really well structured and presented. His knowledge of Iraqi maqam is really deep, and it's been great learning a lot of the sharqi tradition with him too (I'm Egyptian and he throws in a lot of Um Kulthum to illustrate maqams and modulations).

You can see all the upcoming courses here: http://www.arabbritishcentre.org.uk/event/oud-music-literacy-course...

Happy to answer any questions about the 10-week courses - I've taken the beginners course and about 4 intermediate courses and they've been the best thing I've done in the last 2 years - totally opened my eyes and ears!!

Good luck and maybe see you soon!
