Strings

Gocauo - 5-30-2017 at 04:41 PM

A friend just gave me this package of strings... yeah, I'm guessing they are pretty old, but look to be in decent shape....are they even usable on my oud?

It is an arabic and 61.5 string length.

I love that the label says "grocery". Maybe it's spaghetti. :-)

I have my doubts if that strings are original. Many years ago Pyramid used that brown bags, but there is one difference, the words "Lauten Saiten" where printed in white.

But anyway, 5 Mi does not say does not mean, if it is usable on a aoud. That strings ale lute strings, and may be calculated for a 65 cm scale and probably in 415 Hertz. Then it will be far away from a aoud string.

You have only this single string?

There are 5 strings in the package... all wound.

The second is picture I believe are the diameter of the strings...

Hello,

by shure that are never original Pyramid strings as:
  1. Pyramid has never produced white strings
  2. that might be PVF strings and not nylon, test it
  3. every string has an extra bag
  4. the brown color is different
  5. Pyramid wound strings are 105 cm long and not as it can be seen in the pictures with a double length which have to be cut in 2 parts.

no idea what that strings are, which tuning they calculated for, which tension they will produce.

Using them will be a mistery tour.

Best regards

Thank you for your information Matthias!

I think I will set them aside and just appreciate the gift.

You are correct that the brown strings indeed would have to be cut.
The white strings feel as though they are wound...

Here is close up of the string...

this is really crazy.
SAVAREZ once offered such strings many many years ago, but I am sure Pyramid not. Following the picture it seems that is nylon. But the SAVAREZ plastic wound strings where not so polished. They where constructed for harps and started at a nylon equivalent diameter of ~ .85 so far of being a solution for 2 highest notes on an aoud.
