Hi fellow oudies,
on my Sukar oud the varnish on the back of the bowl has damages.
I think it comes from sweating while playing.
How can I fix this and what do I have to use ?

the problem is we don't know what is the original varnish. I think it may be shellac because it has a bit of an orange tint but we cant tell for sure.
Either way you can use shellac. It will work. It can pretty much go on top of any varnish. Go for dewaxed shellac and it should work.
the technique is a bit complicated. I would recommend to very lightly sand (with 400 grit) the whole area to have a uniform surface. Then I would
brush on a few light coat of shellac. let it dry and sand it a bit in between to uniform. next day I would do some French polishing of the area and
try to blend it in. you may end up French polishing the whole instrument that way its a more even look.

Hard to tell from the photo but the wear doesn't look that bad. Honestly I've seen much worse. If it was my oud, honestly, I'd just leave it.
Refinishing it might be more work than worth it. You can try a less labor intensive finish if you do decided to refinish your oud called "Tru-oil" but
I find in the end it usually ends up to be more work than I originally anticipate.

I think I'll wait until it gets worse.
Actually it was my wife who have seen the "damage".As she knows how fussy I am, as soon as it comes to my ouds, she thought it might be better to
point out than listen to my angryness if something goes wrong with the oud.
Maybe I should remove the sign on my musicroom-door that says
You can
borough my car
empty my beer-locker
try to sell my grandma..............but dont touch my instruments!!!

I have the same issue only not to that extent. Only the shine has gone a little. I will try the same suggestion with the Shellac!

Dear...Sukkar uses shellac on the bowl. ...you can sand it with steel wool +++ and apply a couple of shellac coats if you know how to do french
polishing.....if not...just give it to any luthier...it is an easy job
