Abdelwahab oud taqsims discs

ilnokaly - 7-22-2018 at 06:19 PM

My fellow friends, I once heard that Abdelwahab has recorded 5 full discs of oud taqasims back in the 30's, a german recording company came especially to Cairo in order to execute this task. Have anyone heard about this? Does any one (by chance) have or have heard these discs ? They have completly disappeared, what we have on the internet are some taqasims from private recordings and 2 or 3 studio recordings done in the 60,s.

I would love to hear from you. :)

At first I was imagining LP records but of course in the 30s a disc was only a few minutes long. I'm thinking that by "full discs" you mean that these were not introductions to songs or instrumental interludes. It seems to me that some years ago I heard a short studio recording of an oud taqsim by Mohamed Abdelwahab that was on an LP compilation. But I can't recall the circumstances or even be sure of of the maqam. I wish I had something more substantial to add but I'd like to see a conversation/thread emerge from your question. A worthwhile topic!

There is one taqsim from the 1930's that appears on the CD "Kollina Nehib Elqamar" released on the French label Buda Musique.

The track is: Taqsim oud (Rasd) [1932]

See CD track list here:

The same track appears on the compilation "Mohammed Abdel Wahab Vol. 5 / History of Arabic Song [Recordings 1932-1933]".

But I'm guessing this is not the exact recording ilnokaly is looking for.

I think yozhik you are referring to this taqsim which was the only taqsim that i was able to find from the 30's.

I hadn't heard that one - pretty cool. Thanks for posting the link.
