oud taqsim notation

hans - 8-8-2018 at 10:25 AM

Dear fellow members;
after four years of playing I am able to play my own improvisations, which sound rather Spanish, and I am able to play Turkish songs, which is instructive but clearly not oud music; not something I would ever play at a performance. My teacher inists on these songs because it teaches me unfamiliar rhythms, makams, reading music notation, the logic of Ottoman music etc, but for some reason he holds back on teaching me to play oud taqsims. After four years I would really like to try a piece by Yurdal Tokcan or Mehmet Bitmez. Problem is I can't find any sheet music. Is any of you aware of a website where I could find such music scores?
Best regards,
Hans de Vries from glorious Amsterdam

I sent you a u2u! Manolya would be excellent!! I was already afraid that there would be no scores of such pieces, but you made my day; my teacher always says "but those are just taqsims; make your own." But pieces like Tokcan's are why I started to play the oud

In my opinion Yurdal Tokcan is playing very nice taksims and creating lovely compositions, some of them with interesting rhythms and modulations. When you don't find notes feel invited to transcribe yourself or learn by ear. You will benefit a lot. Also taksim transcription and analysis is a good tool to improve your own taksims.

Right now that would be a bit too time consulting for me :)
