Advice on use of repeats on this Sama'i

majnuunNavid - 6-14-2020 at 07:09 PM

I wrote this Sama'i Nahawand. I'm very happy with it, but the way I arranged it makes the repeats are complicated in that the end of the taslim has a different pickup for each khana.

I think the best option is to write the taslim as a separate section and have some symbols to indicate which ending to use. But I'm not really sure what makes the most sense and is the most efficient use of space.

I ended up writing the last taslim ending out at the end just to make things easier.

Hey Navid! I've had this come up before, and there are a few ways to do it that I think are effective and clear.
Since the only thing different is the note before the next khana, you can just write out the last 3 beats. Here's an example:

Brian's suggestion is great and here's another technique that I use all the time for pesrevs:

I've never used this for Semai only because there's been no need. The closest thing would be Refik Fersan's Nikriz Saz Semaisi...before going to the 4th hane (which uses an awesome and unique use of Zeybek rhythm) it likes to have an ending of the teslim that points to the new usul:

I recorded a rough recording of this piece so you can hear the ornaments and additions. Any comments and feedback would be welcome.
