Mystery Luthier in Chicago, 1938

maraoud108 - 12-24-2022 at 08:16 AM

Hi Everyone,

I picked up an oud yesterday that's a bit mysterious. There's a label in it that says Leo Tutun, 1938.

Then there's an address in Chicago.

Has anyone here ever heard of this luthier?

The instrument has some beautiful inlays on the body and neck and headstock. The sound is very warm.

It's a bit hard to play now and will definitely need a neck reset.

I'd post photos but don't have the time to do the editing that's required for them to upload here.

Sounds interesting (1938, that is insane wow!). Would love to see some photos of it in the future if you ever get the time for it. I agree it is much easier to post photos on social media and we've become used to that :) I use ImgBB for forums because it has the ability to make resized previews for different purposes :)

Hi Everyone,

Here's a link to a facebook post I made about the oud in the oud forum on facebook.

There's pictures and a short clip.

The oud and it's maker, Leo Tutunjian remain a mystery!
