Any CD suggestions for hearing oud and flamenco? There was a TV programme on BBC4 the other night called 'An Islamic History of Europe' which was
really interesting. The presenter was entertained at one point in Granada by a group of flamenco musicians (guitar, percussion, singer, dancer) with a
very good oud player. Don't know who they were, but it sounded great.

I listen to the long years flamenco and I play the flamenco guitar.
It was an album named Almoraima of Paco de Lucia that I listened to oud for the first time.
Paco uses oud in other recordings.
There are a lot of flamenco groups in Spain that uses oud now.
I think that the group named Ketama also is using oud maybe.
I really love Tomatito and paco de leccia. But as far as flamenco
is conserned i really like hearing the voice of camaron.
In this forum I've dounloaded video with people playing flamenco on oud.
I believe flamenco is related to arabian music. This is logical because spain has such influences.
Especially in the prygian mode( sorry but i don't know which makam is it), you ca see relations between arabic , Byzantine
and Spanish music.We are connected historically!!!!
The world is a great village with many different people.And the differenses are the interesting part. An interesting part that unites people .

The music scale of maqam Kurd is certainly included in the Phrygian scale.
However, the typical music scale used in Flamenco is Spanish Phrygian.
It is Harmonicc minor scale that Jazz player means.
Spanish Phrygian(Harmonicc minor scale) and Phrygian fuse well and being used by modern Flamenco player.

There is the son of Munir Bashir, Omar Bashir, making records with flamenco musicians. Maybe it is him you saw in this Grenada live.
Also Naseer Shamma made some concerts with a flamenco guitarist, Carlos Pinana.
Don't know if they made some albums.
Would learning spanish guitar interfere/hinder the learning of oud in any way?
I am still a relative beginner and because of alck of teachers/resources I am considering tkaing up classical spanish guitar, but I dont want this to
interfere with my basic oud stuff in any way.

I guess it is mainly a question of time you have to practice both instrument.
If you enjoy playing several instrument, and have time for it...Well, go ahead! I'm pretty sure it is possible to have a very good amateur level in
both.
If you aim at becoming a professional player, a soloist I mean, maybe better to focus only on one instrument.
But don't be afraid to "loose" your basics on oud, I've met many musicians playing well several instruments.
