Best Neighborhood in Istanbul for Music

Hi Everyone,

Don't know if this has been covered before, but I'm headed to Istanbul for a week in July. Was wondering if anyone knows what neighborhoods are best for hearing live music.

I'm not looking for places with blues bars, jazz clubs, stuff like that.

More neighborhoods where there's cafes, spots where people in the community just come together and play.

I'm planning to spend one day doing touristy stuff, and the rest of the time is going to be focused on music stuff. Record shops, hitting up the oud shops. And at nights going to cafes/clubs staying out late listening to music.

To that end, I don't really need to stay in the central parts or the areas that are most desirable for most people, i.e. Times Square neighborhoods. I'm more interested in being in the East Village or Lower East Side equivalent, where there's great music clubs that locals play at and go to.

If you have any suggestions, I'd be grateful!

For music shops the Galata area is where the major shops are.

For local bars (meyhane) with music, you'll want to be in Uskudar area on the Asian side of Istanbul. That's where you want to hang.

This is what I remember from going 10 years ago.
