Concert Petition for helping Palestinians

palestine48 - 7-29-2005 at 10:31 AM

Hey board. I found this website that is holding a petition to recruite bono, sting and other international singers to hold a concert in the palestinian areas for human rights and peace.

I know we try to rrefrain from politics on this board but since this is music related and music is the language of peace I don't see why we cannot enlist ourselves to help other people. The petition has only 36,000 or so I think if the word is spread we can help raise the votes. I really don't see how we can lose here by at least giving it a shot. Maybe if this concert becomes a reality. It would be a great stage to show off all of our worlds great oudists. I know simon shaheen once did a track with lenny kravitz that was downloadable on lenny's sight. Hopefully someday we can see such a collaberation live.

Mike would you consider that this be one of the permanent posts so everyone gets a chance to see it. Hopefully we can make this concert idea a reality and have some more peace in the world.

Here is the link guys: http://www.concert4palestine.org/

Once again I know this is not a forum for politics but I do think using music for the help of human rights is something all us musicians should take a part in.

Thanks,

Rami

hey all
anyone ehre have thatr ecording from lenny with tht e oud
thx sam,my

palestine48 - 7-30-2005 at 08:44 PM

Here you are sammy,

The original site where it came from is still up with a bio on the song but the download doesn't work anymore so I had to search for it and I found it on another forum.

It's a cool song but Lenny takes up most of it and his electric instruments kills most of the acoustic instruments so you can only hear the oud during the intro and the breakdown. You have to keep an ear out for the riq and daf and all Kazem does is belt a few notes with no lyrics. I think Kazem should have done more on the song, as talented as he is.

Heres the site for reading pleasure: http://www.lennykravitz.com/rockthevote/index_popup.asp

I guess the upload did not work. well here is the sight I got the track from. Its at the bottom of the article near the right edge of the screen.

Its called "we want peace":

amarock - 7-31-2005 at 11:52 AM

Dear Palestine48
no matter what you will answer,i will not reply because i respect Mike's wish to not make the site a political area. But i feel obliged to protest, not because of the idea to make a concert for the palestinians people, they really need help and support, but because of the site you published here.
I don't want to argue with you but there is absolutly no link between the name of the site and what the site speak about :some bad propagand!
Mike i,m sorry but i had to react, but i promiss it will be the last reaction to the subject.

Hello all,

I really pray that we can keep this from turning into a political debate and amarock, I agree with you that some of the tabs at the top of the site were more or less one sided, however, lets not loose focus here. The purpose of this post is to gain votes for this concert and the link led directly to the voting page. Lets not let bickering over little things overshadow the larger goal of achieving peace.

regards,
Adnan

Hi Rami & Bruno,

Thanks for not letting this get in the way of what we all love: The oud and traditional Near Eastern music!

Let's all try to remember that the oud is played by--and this awsome web site visited by--Palestinians and Israelis, Maghrebi Arabs and Berbers, Iraqis and Iranians, Turks, Greeks, Armenians, and Kurds, Maronite and Shiite Lebanese, and all kinds of other peoples who may have a history of conflict (sorry if I forgot to mention you by name!). We need to be careful what we say in this Forum, because we have plenty of political disagreements that could spoil our discussions.

I like believe that my oud playing--and yours, too--has opened hearts and brought us just a bit closer to a just peace throughout the Near East, North Africa, and the world.

Salaam/Shalom/Shlama/Khoda Hafez,
Udi John

Amen! As the poet Nathaniel Mackey says, "music is wounded kinship's last resort."
