Oud at German e-bay

Marina - 10-23-2005 at 12:31 AM

Dear all,
there is an oud listed at German e-buy. I thought to bid on it...But I can not make my mind up. So here is the link. I thought that you did not see it, because it's not listed at worlds e-buy. ;-)

Marina,

If I were in your position, I would write to the seller to find our the name of the maker. It looks okay from the photos, but it is impossible to tell quality from photos alone, unless you have more information on the maker etc.

Regards,

Greg

I don't know who made it, but if you can get it even at the original price ($597.47USD) it would be a bargain. This is a very well made instrument whoever made it. If you don't read German, here's a translation by Google -
"This Oud is a very much maintained instrument and by the age from 10 years the sound became only better. A beautiful wood (Mahagoni and ebony) and qualitative processing are visible and naturally also audible. The mass: Length from the korpus to the saddle amounts to 69 cm!!!!Alle parts is from qualitatively verabeitetem wood!!!! plastic or approves of felling trees hurry!!!!! manual work!!!! !!!!!!ORIGINAL PRICE: 500 €!!!!!"

Droud & Greg,
Thanks!
;-)
The seller wrote: This Oud was build by ´Halim ײzbakar´ in Turkey in the City ´Corum´.

Did you hear about him?

I posed some (a lot more, hehehe) more questions about the size of the oud (fingerboard, tickness ot the neck, action), but I think that the seller got angy with me because of all those questions. ;-)

Chaldo was asking about this maker (Halim Özbakar) back in February:

It looks like nobody here knows the maker, but if Doc says the instrument is good quality, you can be confident that it is.

Greg

Here is a translation from a person who is a native German speaker (he is also a musician):

"This is an instrument in good condition (has been treated well), thanks to its age of 10 years, the sound even improved. Nice wood (Mahogany and ebony), the quality work on it is instantly recognisable and it sounds to prove it. The measurements: Length of the body to the saddle is 69 cm. All parts are made of high quality wood. No plastic or cheap wood parts! Real handcrafted piece."

I hope that helps.

Regards,

Greg
