And photo of this nice oud

It sounds like a vihuela. It’s a shame to put frets on an oud because it loses its expressiveness.

That looks like a mandolin and kind of sounds like one, but it is a beautiful sound like none other.

same oud without frets

When you tie frets to oud,it will lose it's rich notes as my opinion. It will be a different instrument.

fretted as ordered

That's very interesting. Sounds almost like a mandolin with gut strings.

I like the sound of fretted oud....It's more like lute....Like troubadours....

Branko - 7-23-2006 at 12:47 PM

Well, oud is the predecessor of the lute. Here is a sound sample of finger picking. Bit hard to do chords on a narrow neck. If someone wants affordable lute and likes the sound then, perhaps, Mr. Azar could make fretted oud-lute with wider neck?

And this is “Little Red Fez” etude for itchy fingers in Ajam jazzed up with blue notes.

Branko - 7-23-2006 at 10:55 PM

Here is finger picking sample

Marina - 7-23-2006 at 11:05 PM

Branko, do you have a web site?

Marina - 7-23-2006 at 11:05 PM

I liked the samples, so I would like to read & here more on the web... :)

Marina - 7-23-2006 at 11:07 PM

Ha, ha, ha now I got it the "Little Red Fes" = "Crven Fesic". :D

Branko - 7-24-2006 at 01:21 AM

I do not have web site. I have to upgrade my recording gear and restring with Aquila nylguts before I make new recordings
