"Rare and Lost Takassims of Farid el-Atrache" Page

TruePharaoh21 - 12-23-2003 at 12:24 AM

I'm not sure if it was on this site or on Farid's own site, but we were posting the lost takassim for quite a while, and I guess that stopped when the site went temporarily down. If anyone has more takassims, please post them (I'm looking at you, Saad, :D )

Click here for the Rare and Lost Takassim Page

Be sure to post if you have any!

Saad, if you e-mail me one at a time like you've done in the past, I can get them up on the page if you like. And of course, you'll have credit for them. There is one takassim up there that Mike (from Mike's Ouds :D ) provided me, and I thank him for that one.

I look forward to an e-mail, Mr. Ra7aal :)

TruePharaoh21, many thanks for this great treasure. It made my collection!

Hey TP,

I must be doing something wrong because I can not download the full ram files. I get only the link. What am I doing wrong?

Regards,

Greg

RIght click, save target as, you get the "linked file" the "ram" file. If you want the full file, open it in text editor, copy the url and paste in an html file and create a link. Open the html file, then right click save and you'll download the full file.

Very tricky Sam, thanks. It works a treat:bowdown:

What I like to is open it up in a program called "Ra to Wav" http://rawavrecorder.homestead.com/ it records Real Player as a WAV file (in real time). Then I use I-Tunes to convert to mp3 (much smaller size). Then it in my mp3 library with the rest of the gems

You can do it in one step with "RM to MP3 Converter" from Boilsoft. http://www.rmconverter.com/download.html

It also allows you to do several files in one batch and the quality is excellent. Please U2U me if you have any problems getting it to run.

Greg

Anyone have anything we haven't heard yet? I think sama3y.net has some stuff, but I can't seem to get access to the site to download anything. Anything would be much appreciated!

They have a couple items of note. The only one I have on hand is a better version of your number 4:

I'll get the rest sometime tonight most likely .

Taqasim bayati, probably 1930s/40s based on similar-sounding recordings from that era:

Taqasim bayati, Al Rabee concert in kuwait, probably 1966 based on the similar sounding awal hamsa taqasim from that year:

Farid at a private party with a traditional ensemble. This recording has been edited to fit into an hour-long broadcast, but it's the highest quality version I've heard; even the commercial distribution isn't as good. If anyone ever finds the complete version in comparable quality I'd love to get my hands on it. I know there's some more oud missing and a violin taqasim as well as the last verse of the last song.

The presenter dates it around the mid 60s which I find somewhat hard to believe given the resemblance of both the oud and the taqasim to the 1970 Rabee concert. Then again it's all speculative so who knows.

TruePharaoh21 - 12-16-2011 at 07:11 PM

Beautiful quality... these are absolutely incredible.

ameer - 12-16-2011 at 07:33 PM

Noura noura, live concert. Less than perfect quality, but a pretty good concert all the same; excelent percussion and nay playing, and Farid himself is unusually good on the mawal.

Fantastic! thanks!

Here's a newyears present for everyone. Here's a taqasim from an Al Rabee concert that I've never seen anywhere before. It was played as a part of an interview with Farid broadcast in Saudi Arabia; unfortunately I'm not aware of a recording of the whole concert but the whole interview is up on 4shared in good quality. Here's the taqasim; I would date it somewhere in the early 60s.

And one more...
While digging around on sama3y I found this taqsim. It's taken from an extended performance of "eneya btidhak," no later than the mid 60s I'd say.

Shukran!

Taqsim from Awal Hamsa in Syria. I always knew there was a decent quality version of this one floating around somewhere.

Got another one. This one was just posted on sama3y, though their version was slowed down by about a fifth. I fixed it to what I believe to be the correct pitch based on a couple very similar sounding recordings. Anyway, enjoy.

I'll let Farid himself introduce this recording. If anyone knows where to find the full version, please let me know; it sounds like this is only an excerpt.
