My New Oud From AlTayyar Masters

Time - 10-16-2006 at 07:15 PM

After 4 Months of Fine workmanship Saad and Sabah Al Tayyar have finished this master piece. I know I shouldn't say that about my own oud, but they have simply amazed me,
It is made of Sycamore Maple for the bowl, Red Cedar for the Top, Ebony for the peg-box and the neck. For the Rosette it is ebony and I think ivory (not elephant ivory
here are the pictures and hopefully the sound file will be sometime this week.

I love the look of flame maple bowls on ouds. Do you have more pictures?

WOOOOAAAAW
One of the most beautiful oud I have ever seen !
Made by a real artist.

zalzal - 10-17-2006 at 04:44 AM

The perfection does not exist, iit is an objectif never reachable where we allways try to go to. This applies to everything.
This is reason.

I have been admiring the photos (agree with you Mavrothis) but most of all the content of the photos.

I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY MISTAKE OR DEFECTUAL CRAFTMANSHIP,

Pls help !!! i do not want to lose reason.

Am i in front off a perfect thing ??? Anybody there can advise where are the mistake, even tiny, even very tiny....i want to keep my reason.....

Jason - 10-17-2006 at 04:58 AM

That's one of the best looking ouds I've ever seen. Very interesting to use ebony for the entire neck

Mike - 10-17-2006 at 05:51 AM

Alf mabrouk Time. One very fine and elegant looking instrument. The attention to detail is top notch.

billkilpatrick - 10-17-2006 at 07:03 AM

a beautiful instrument - if you suddenly become a recluse ... we'll understand.

oudplayer - 10-17-2006 at 07:09 AM

I own two ouds, one by fouad Jihad, the other by Saad Altayyar. i love them both, and they are very different. The Fouad has a deep, gentle, and poetic sound. The Tayyar is more brilliant and has a terrific sustain and vibrato. It has the easiest action imaginable. I always sound better than I think I really am when I am playing the tayyar.

Alan - 10-17-2006 at 09:46 AM

That is a beautiful oud. Enjoy

riadh.3oud - 10-17-2006 at 10:12 AM

wow!!! it's very beautiful..

alf mabrouk

we wait a sound file;)

Time - 10-17-2006 at 10:16 AM

Thanks a lot everybody.

it is a 7 course with well balanced sound. I am trying to speed up the sound file, but my computer sound card background noise is just to much (deafect).

Zalzal: i spend 5 mins a day trying to find a gap or misalignment in it with no luck, it is just incredibly well done.

Gorgeous instrument. Is it tuned in the standard Iraqi tuning, with the additional bass being C or D?

paulO - 10-17-2006 at 10:47 AM

Double Wow -- a beautiful work of art. Fantastic work on the bowl, just letting the wood do the talking. Sweet choice on the neck, and the neck/body joint is sweet. Lovely bound pegbox, meticulous pegs, cool looking top -- elegant understated rosette, cool cutaway, and a killer looking bridge -- they are indeed masters. The oud's a kockout dude, as my parents used to say -- enjoy it in good health !! Thanks for sharing the photos.

Cheers...PaulO

Thank you Gentlemen

The photographer of these pictures is saad Al Tayyar, he definitely knows how to take pictures for very reflective ouds.

the tuning is the standard Iraqi, and for the bass it takes both C or D with no problems if the right string is used with proper tension.

Sound File

Time - 10-20-2006 at 09:11 AM

sorry for the delay the sound file is here now..

This taqaseem is played by Jamal Kassis Enjoy!

this is the true sound of the oud. no effects

Chris_Khouri - 11-17-2006 at 07:05 PM

This is definitely a gorgeous oud.

I think that the design's that the tayyar brothers make are very elegant, and even though simpler than the designs of traditional arabic oud, they might be even more accepted by and appealing to the Western listeneres and music enthusiasts.

Perhaps more and more Arabic ouds should look this way, as trying to appeal to other cultures, without loosing the arabic/eastern essence will greatly improve this instrument.
