Ordering new oud from Tasos Theodorakis

mavrothis - 11-28-2006 at 02:34 PM

Hey guys,

Just thought I'd share that I've just ordered a new oud from a very talented maker in Thessaloniki, Greece. His name is Tasos Theodorakis - some of you are probably familiar with his work and his collection of older ouds.

Theodorakis Website

Anyway, I'm very excited of course, and I'm posting a pic of what my oud will look like. Only a few minor details will be different.

The top will be cedar, and the bowl will be walnut/mahogany. I think this oud will have a lot of Manol-like features... :)

Now all I have to do is wait...lol

Take care,

mavrothis

This is the guy who panted that practice oud invention right? that oud looks really nice. Id like the pickguard design, Id love to see a pheonix design or something like that.

Yeah, I like his style. It's clear from talking with him that he's really into these instruments, and loves the details.

:)

Hey Mav,

Kaloriziko !

You read my mind ! This is definitely one of his best ouds and I had my eye on it for a while.

I actually dealt with Tassos before and he is a great guy. Very talented too. I would recommend him to everybody.

Good luck with it. We're all waiting to hear you playing it.

Hi Mav,
Tasos is such a maker that no one can be disappointed with him. He is a maker with amazing personality and talent, i bought an Oud from him While i was in Saloniki on holiday. He Builds his Oud with 100% detail quality, i have had his Oud now for 3 years and can't just believe how he makes his Ouds with 0% inaccuracy.
Congratulations and enjoy it once you receive it.

Thanks Alan, I agree with you completely. I've had my oud now for a little over 3 years, and I am very happy with hit. It reminds me very much of Manolis Venios ouds I've played, from the sound to the look as well.

I've recently ordered a 6-string (trichordo) bouzouki from him, which will include many microtonal frets in addition to the tempered frets normally used. When it is finished I will post pictures and video so you can see, I am very excited about the possibilities.

Enjoy your oud!

Take care,

Mavrothi

Mavroth,

Actually when i sough the article i didn't check the date and thought it was posted recently, but any way I am happy for you. I am planning to order a new one from him but don't know what material & design to choose yet.
Any way it would be pleasure to see your new buzuki, i know how it feels to be waiting for it so long maybe.

By the way if you talk directly to him could you please tell him to upload pictures on his site of ouds he makes, so we can maybe get ideas or order same ones. thanks

Regards
Alan

Thanks guys, you are really very kind, thank you.

Alan, you should feel free to contact Taso and ask him for pictures of some of his creations, other than the ones already on his site. I'm sure he'd be happy to provide you with them, and may also enjoy putting some more pictures on his site, though I can't speak for him.

Take care, and I will definitely share the bouzouki with you on the forum when it arrives.

Take care,

mavrothi
