nahat ouds

are nahat ouds still able to be located in syria??

some of my classmates' fathers have left to syria for about a month and they are looking for nahat ouds, they've done this for about three years straight and have found only one...

so is it still possible that nahat ouds are able to be located and bought there??

ps. there has been a report that in oman a bedouin sold a nahat (made by abdo) for an equivalent of $150 to a tourist!!

If that is true Nadir, that's one lucky tourist! :applause: I wonder if the tourist had any clue?

Hey everybody,
I found several Nahhat ouds in lebanon, may be 4 of them. Their cost however was really high. One was going for $6000 and the cheapest one was for $1500 and the others were somewhere in between.
I have some pictures of them but they are only pictures that I took like that not very clear pictures. If somebody is interested I can stop by at the same location and take more pictures when I go back to lebanon next Summer.

More about Nahat oud

Ah, I forgot. Somebody else's in Lebanon contacted me and told me that he knows a oud maker who has a Nahat oud who is willing to sell it for $800. THe oud maker wouldn't let the oud outside and wouldn't let anybody take pictures of it. I will visit him once I get there and see what is it all about. It could be a fake Nahat. However, the other Nahat ouds I saw are authentic.

I was in Dasmascus a few years ago and found only fake Nahat ouds for sale, and plenty of them. Every oud shop in the suk Hammadea had at least one "Nahat", but they were just old junk with a Nahat rose or fingerboard installed.

The Nahat family moved to Brazil somtime in the 1960's, and discontinued oud making, Georges being the last maker in Damascus. Then an oud surfaced for sale in the Netherlands, made by Abdo (a grandson) and it looked just like any other Nahat, highly decorated, precise, all the recognizable designs, etc. The owner swears it's authentic and that it sounds beautiful.

Maybe you should go looking for Nahats in Brazil?

that's actually a clevar idea!! i too was also skeptical of believing that a real nahat would be sold for that cheap... all you need to do is look inside the oud itself and see that its old! lol!

how did the fake nahat ouds sound??

Dear all,
You have to know what is a Nahat oud before you buy one.
Best wishes,
Adel
