Hey folks, I just got a new (old) oud.
This oud was made in Damascus. I'm not sure of the age or the maker's name, because the label was lost. I bought it from Najib Shaheen; he told me
the maker's name and when it was built but I can't remember exactly.
This used to be Hikmat Shaheen's oud (Simon and Najib's father). You can see him playing it in photos that accompany some articles about Simon. It
used to have a mother of pearl fingerboard, but Najib put a rosewood fingerboard on for me. The old style of the original was was kind of cool, but
it's not really a great material for fingerboards and is a little garish.
I'll post some sound files when I get a chance.

okay I finally put together a little recording. I changed the strings since I did it, it sounds much better now, but this will give you an idea of
the sound. There are no effects or EQ on the recording.

Thanks guys, I feel really lucky to have such an instrument.
Interestingly, the face is made of more than 2 pieces of wood--just goes to show that the maker's skills are the most important thing.
