Hey guys, I was looking around Dubai today and was able to get a hold of a Dikran Nadjarian oud... I'll be posting up pictures on a web page soon!!

(I was also able to get a setar from Iran as well! I'll post those pictures up too!)

Cool picture Spyros. Take a look at this oud. I'm not sure if it is still available or not, but it looks lovely.

yes man, nice instrument....very nice, you know,I always respect the oudmakers and the instrument builders generally,we have sooo much things to learn from the old builders....
This foto was from a travel guide book about the history and the beautifull places of this region that Nazarian was at 70s-80s.....

Did he make ouds as good as Vikin?

chuckerbutty - 4-8-2004 at 10:43 AM

For a moment I thought the oud in the picture was fretted, until I realised that it was more likely to be a cunning inlay. This is my personal taste, but I like the look of these old school ouds with their short fingerboards and symmetrical scratchplates.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, rather) I don't, Zul, and I'm sure my neighbours are thanking me for it!

I have a bagpipe from in Shiraz, Iran. It's called Neyhamboun or Hambouneh there. It's the same as to these, only elaborately decorated-

I finally got that Nadjarian picture (among others)... anyways, here it is:

nadir - 4-18-2004 at 03:24 PM

Do you think the inlay Nadjarian used on his ouds were to act as frets or were they just design??

chuckerbutty - 4-19-2004 at 04:17 AM

Do the lines tally with the intonation on your Nadjarian? The spacing between the lines does appear to get smaller as you go up the neck.

nadir - 4-19-2004 at 04:28 AM

To be honest, I don't know, the Nadjarian was never mine in the first place, it belongs to my teacher... but I'll try it out after it's restored! :bounce:
