US soldier plays oud for Iraqi children

Just saw this on Slate:

Regardless of what you think about this war (I was vehemently opposed), it looks like a pretty cool oud! Cute kids too.

Thank you for this beautiful and inspiring photo; I have taken the liberty of posting it on some of the guitar forums that I frequent.

Question:

War criminal poses for pentagon propaganda (unfortunately with a beautiful oud)

I'm sorry to break this moment of purported peace meeting between Iraqi children and the US army but the soldier doesn't play the oud on the picture, he is just holding it, maybe for the purpose of the picture -still not holding it correctly or as a real oud player would hold it-.
Anyway happy new year to everybody

I normally don't post responses to these types of posts, but I gotta back my brother Mike now and then. Don't worry Tariq. I surmise that most here aren't the bumbling political fools you think we are. Rather, we refrain from potential disrespect of others by keeping personal OFF-TOPIC opinions to ourselves when gathering at Mike's OUD forums. You may be offended by certain wars or activities of governments, so you should also consider that others might be offended by your comments too. How does that contribute positively to this forum? If you were sitting in my living room, enjoying some hospitality, and I showed you this photo, I doubt you would respond the same way. In fact, our shared middle-eastern (and American) ethics prohibit it. I try to treat Mike's forums as if I was a guest at Mike's home. I'm sure I fail plenty. If you don't like the things that are done in the name of America, I suggest you either vote (I assume you are a citizen) or move away. I hope it would be the former, since I'd like to meet you someday.

Hi Jameel-

I hear you man- Mike has met me, (I feel like I know all of you guys, you all are my extended family!) and knows how passionate I am regarding the destruction of this world (on so many levels) by the illegitimate powers that be (from all over the globe). I think I have contributed, for the most part, in a supportive, oud-based level for the past few years- but just as in actual society, the political opinions of our community here should not be seen as diverting from the "point" of the forums, or somehow breaking the "rules." It only serves to legitimize this as an ACTUAL community as opposed to a virtual one.

I really do hear you, but Ive just had a little bit of different experience with "america:" unfortunately and fortunately I live here and I actively seek to change it for the better, greater good for all of it's citizens- not just the rich and wealthy ones- you know?

Lets hope and pray that this new year brings us peace of mind, peace of nation, peace amongst peoples and hopefull a "peace" of the pie!

one love to everyone on the forums-:airguitar:
