Solo improvisation by music great John Abercrombie

ChrisOud - 1-6-2008 at 10:44 AM

Hi Everyone,
Here's a great clip of a John Abercrombie solo improvisation. Yes, I know, he's playing guitar but it is middle eastern based and amazing and beautiful. And not your standard guitar playing at all - really, check it out!

I know it will excite the oudists/guitarists amongst us. I'm interested to hear the opinions of the oud afficiandos and what they like or don't like.

BTW the clip gives the title of a song he isn't playing - ignore it.

Best wishes for happy ears

Great taqsim. Interesting is the drone effect he gets.

Happy New year everyone - and a peaceful new year

Hi Leon,
I hope you can get a CD with this on it - I thought it was just on a concert for TV. The clip says "Alice in Wonderland" but he certainly isn't playing that jazz standard.

The closest to the youtube clip that I've heard is the recording 'In The Moment' with the Gateway trio on ECM. A fantastic album of trio improvisations.

regards,
Chris
