Dear friend,

Although the oud came from Jordan, in reality it is a Syrian oud, made by the family of Ali Khalifa.

His name is on the rosette, and it has all the characteristics of a late date make.

I doubt that it was made by Ali Khalifa himself. Please check to see if the rosettes are plastic. That should tell us a lot about the value of the oud.

thank you. yes the rosettes are plastic. I would like to sell it. While it is beautiful to look at, I cannot play it and have no place to display it properly. A fair price that it would sell for would be appreciated.

Thank you again

Somebody has been trying to sell one of those on eBay for a couple of months now and been unable to. So they were lowering the price from $ 365 down to $ 300 and still no takers. A couple of years ago you could sell it in the USA for $300 but there has been an influx of commercial grade ouds from Egypt and Turkey recently so that ouds like that sell for $ 120 - $ 200. Like Mr. Bashir said in Syria they sell for $ 60 but you have to figure the transportation too.

Good luck

My first oud was from the Khalifa family as well, they are probably the most common beginner ouds to find... just thought that you should keep that in mind as well... good luck!
