Very sobering yet interesting article that should make us all stop and realise how lucky we are to be able to play whenever we want wherever we want.

Terrible situation. I've heard from a friend that even the famous Baghdad Maqam singer, Hussein al-Athamy, was singing at a private party in Amman
and so I'm also assuming that he is now living there.
The buildings are in ruins, the doctors have left, the intellectuals have fled to avoid assassination and the artists and musicians are being
silenced.
Bloody militias. As an Iraqi, I now get fanciful thoughts of a "Desperado" like movie, starring an oud player. Maybe he can perform a touching
taqsim in sika after each scene of slaughter. Antonio Banderas played an Arab in "The 13th Warrior," so... why not. Though it would have to be an
Egyptian film, as I've had it up to here with Hollywood movies and the killing of Middle Eastern peoples.
