Hey prince
so i am adani yemeni and i always wondered this for many years you can ask any of the older members they will tell you.
I have asked maybe about 20 oud players from yemen or who play yemeni songs and theya ll tell me very differ things. the last one i heard was
they tune very high, especially the last few strings.
i am going to be in Flarida this augest and visiting a pro yemeni oud player who i am staying by . so i am goign to get some lessons and give you all
the real yemeni tuning that he tells me ..
thx sammy

Hi Guys,
I have the right answer for your question, sammy. All yemeni players use two types of tuning and the different between the two tuning is just one
course (coupled strings) tuned diferently than the other type. and Old generation players use 5 courses (10 Strings) oud. But the new generation use 6
courses (12 strings) oud, because they got effected by the iraqi tuning.
Examples singers oud players using 5 courses oud:
Mohammad Morshid Naji
Abu-bhaker Salem
Abdul kareem qaasim.
Jameela Sa'ad
Players using 6 courses oud:
Ahmad Fathi ( the only yemeni oud player has bachlor degree from Cairo Music insistitude).
And others players which i dont know.
5 courses tuning type 1, From High to Low (Thick strings to thin strings):
FA
LA
RE
SOL
DO
5 courses tuning type 2, from high to low (Thick to thin):
SOL
LA
RE
SOL
DO
6 Courses tuning, from High to Low:
FA
LA
RE
SOL
DO
FA
Thanks

The 6 courses tuning is the same I use on my Shehata, and it's the standard tuning in Egypt as far as I know.
