This is really shocking. I can only imagine how difficult this is for his family based on Greg's report. It seems like this totally came out of nowhere. Thanks Greg for sending our sincerest condolences to the family. Very sad news indeed.

Haluk has always been a valued member of this forum, and the oud-making world in general. He always treated me like a gentleman, and offered lots of valued advice and support in my oud-making efforts. He also did a great service to young oud players by offering quality instruments at extremely low prices. His contributions here will be missed. God rest your soul, our friend and mentor Haluk. My thoughts go out to your family.

May his soul rest in peace. Really sad the way he passed away

Christian1095 - 6-28-2008 at 07:59 PM

This is such a small community that his passing will truly be missed by many.

Greg or Mike, is there any way a collection could be organized for the family? Perhaps by paypal or something...

Melbourne - 6-28-2008 at 08:23 PM

This is very sad news and indeed a shock. It was very out of character that Haluk was not responding, and one would not want to entertain the thought that the worst case was true, but sadly it was...

May God grant him eternal peace...

Rahmatou'Allah 3alih,

I feel very sad as I type these lines. I lost my father a year ago and I can imagine what his family is going through. My deepest condolences to master Eryadin's family and friends. I want to thank Greg for relaying our most sincere feelings. I've not known master Haluk as well as some of the members. But every time I read his posts on these forums, there was a fatherly warmth to them that I somehow related to. His kindness could best be seen in his dedication towards making affordable ouds of good quality. Something I'm sure many aspiring newcomers will miss after his unfortunate departure. Now that I think about this, it is a shame I never got to know him better, or even buy one of his ouds.

God bless his soul,

-Sidi

My condolences to his family and loved ones. I am not familiar with Haluk but echo the sense of loss expressed by the forum, as Chris says, we are not many.

journeyman - 6-30-2008 at 06:44 AM

I wish to express my deepest sympathy to Haluk's family and friends. Anyone who has made such a contribution has left this world enriched by their having lived in it. I'm sure that anyone who has one of Haluk's instruments receives great joy from playing it and in turn passes this joy on to those who have the pleasure of hearing the music. In this way part of Haluk will always survive and continue to enrich the lives or others. May he rest in peace and may his family find strength through this difficult time.

I know I won't be able to add something more to what you all said, but I want also to write how I felt this guy was a great person as I felt in our few e-mail exchanges, he was always very kind and helpful, and when you read his post about his quality and affordable ouds, together with the post he wrote, you feel that the oud world has lost somebody which we could have been proud of him.
I sent him an e-mail to buy him an oud at the end of May 2008, he then told me he was not in his workshop. I had been waiting for months to decide to order him an oud because I just don't have much money, but thanks to him I have been able at least to think of purchasing a quality oud despite the fact I'm not rich. Unfortunately It was too late, but at least you gave me the ability to dream about holding a quality oud dear Haluk, hope you will be fine in the place you are now. All my sincere condolences to his family.

Sad news, not only a generous and dedicated Luthier, but he gave his knowledge to over 30 apprentices.

Tommy - 9-19-2009 at 08:54 PM

It has been sometime since I've been on these forums, but I sure didn't expect this news when I signed on. He was a masterful craftsmen and gentlemen who produced a quality instrument for an affordable price. He built me a beautiful baglama saz in '05 and he was excted at the time because it was the first one he had ever sent to Ireland. Has any of his apprentices kept the torch going? May he rest in peace.

The word are not sufficient !
My deepest respects and may he rest in peace!
